About Thrive Tallow

Thrive Tallow is an Australian family-owned business founded by husband and wife Aaron and Sarah.

Our philosophy is simple: create genuinely effective skincare using traditional, nutrient-rich ingredients that work with the skin rather than against it. Everything is proudly made in Australia using grass-fed and finished Australian beef tallow.

The core idea to remember: we don't believe more ingredients are better. We believe better ingredients are better.

A quick note on prices in this guide: they reflect our most recent pricing, but a couple of these products (Lip Balm especially) are being updated soon. Always check current RRP before quoting a customer.

Sun Balm with Zinc Oxide

This is the product we need to be most careful talking about — please read this whole section before you sell it.

What's in it

The key ingredient is 22% non-nano zinc oxide — a naturally occurring mineral. "Non-nano" means the particles are large enough that they sit on top of the skin rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. That's an important point of difference, and a great thing to mention to customers who are cautious about what they put on their skin.

Because the zinc sits on the surface rather than absorbing in, this balm is genuinely multi-purpose — many customers reach for it anywhere they want a protective, comforting layer against harsh environmental elements, including on the most delicate skin.

⚠ What You Can & Can't Say About Sun Balm

This product has not been tested or registered as a sunscreen or therapeutic good, so we cannot make sun protection or SPF claims about it — even though zinc oxide is a well-known mineral. Please stick to the language below.

On the nappy rash question: zinc oxide is a well-known ingredient in registered nappy rash treatments elsewhere on the market — but because our Sun Balm isn't registered as a therapeutic product, we can't make that specific treatment claim here. It's safest to describe it as a gentle, protective barrier balm that many customers use on babies' and children's more delicate skin, rather than naming any condition it treats.
If a customer asks "can I use this instead of sunscreen?" Be upfront: it hasn't been tested or registered as a sunscreen, so we can't make that claim. For extended time outdoors, recommend pairing it with a registered sunscreen and other sun-safe habits (shade, clothing, a hat).

Technically formulated as an after-sun balm — but customers use it well beyond that.

Aloe vera and tallow work together to leave skin feeling comforted and hydrated. It's a favourite for skin that's feeling dry, tight or generally in need of some extra care — including after time spent outdoors. Many customers simply keep a jar as their everyday all-over body moisturiser, not just for after-sun use.

Good to know: both essential oil blends are steam distilled, which means they're non-phototoxic — unlike some cold-pressed citrus oils, they don't carry a photosensitivity risk in sunlight. Worth mentioning if a customer asks about wearing a citrus scent during the day.

Common Questions You'll Get Asked

"Is the Sun Balm a sunscreen?"
No — it hasn't been tested or registered as a sunscreen, so we can't call it one or give it an SPF rating. It contains 22% non-nano zinc oxide, valued for creating a protective barrier on the skin. For guaranteed sun protection, pair it with a registered sunscreen and sun-safe habits like shade, clothing and a hat.
"Does it smell like beef?"
No. The finished products do not smell like beef — the essential oils create the finished fragrance profile.
"Is the tallow Australian?"
Yes. All Thrive products are made using grass-fed and finished Australian beef tallow.
"Can men use it?"
Absolutely. All products are designed to be enjoyed by anyone.
"Is it vegan?"
No. Beef tallow is an animal-derived ingredient.

Staff tips

  • Never use the words SPF, sunscreen, sun protection or UV protection about the Sun Balm — see Module 2 for exactly what to say instead.
  • Avoid "heals," "treats" or "cures" for any product — use comforting, moisturising, nourishing language instead.
  • Don't claim any product treats a named skin condition (nappy rash, eczema, sunburn, acne). Describe the ingredients and let customers draw their own conclusions.
  • If you're ever unsure whether something is okay to say, default to describing the ingredients and how the product feels to use, rather than what it "does" medically.
