FAQ
Why might someone choose beef tallow over other cooking fats?
Beef tallow is heat-stable, non-inflammatory, nutrient-rich and free from industrial processing. Unlike seed oils, it doesn’t oxidise easily. Unlike olive oil, it won’t degrade at high temperatures. And unlike coconut oil, it has a more neutral flavour that won’t dominate your dish.
How does beef tallow compare nutritionally to other cooking fats?
Unlike many processed oils, beef tallow contains zero polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which oxidise under heat and can create free radicals. Instead, it is rich in monounsaturated fats, which are stable and supportive of heart health. It also has a healthy omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, making it a non-inflammatory option.
What are the primary uses of beef tallow in cooking?
Beef tallow is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. Its super high smoke point makes it ideal for high-heat cooking like deep frying, pan searing and roasting, without smoking out the kitchen. It’s also perfect for sautéing vegetables, greasing baking trays or making next-level roast potatoes and chips.
Are there any unique health benefits to using beef tallow?
Yes, definitely. Beef tallow is a nutrient-dense fat that contains vitamins A, D, E, K and choline. It supports hormone function, brain health and energy production. Thanks to its stability, it doesn’t break down into harmful compounds the way seed oils often do.
Will beef tallow make my food taste like beef?
Not at all. While our tallow has a subtle richness, the flavour is more buttery than beefy. When used in cooking, it adds depth and crispness without overpowering the dish. It is even great for baking.
Is beef tallow good for frying?
Absolutely. Beef tallow makes the crispiest, golden chips you can imagine. It brings a rich texture and satisfying crunch to fried foods, while keeping things light and clean-tasting. Once you’ve had chips cooked in tallow, there’s no going back.
Are there any environmental or sustainability benefits?
Yes, there are. Our tallow is sourced from regenerative farms in Southeast Queensland that use ethical and environmentally conscious practices. The cattle are raised without hormones or chemicals, and the farming methods support soil health, biodiversity and carbon drawdown.
What is suet, and how is it different from tallow?
Suet is the raw, hard fat found around a cow’s kidneys. We gently render this suet to create tallow, which is a pure, shelf-stable cooking fat. Suet is the starting point, while tallow is the refined final product you’ll use in the kitchen.
Why do you prioritise 100% grass-fed over organic certification?
We care about what the cows eat, not just the label on their food. Organic grain-fed still means the animals are eating grain, which can lead to higher omega-6 content. Our cattle are 100% grass-fed, producing a healthier, more natural fat with a better nutritional profile.
Why are natural fats like tallow better than processed alternatives?
Natural fats are close to how nature intended. They retain their nutrients, flavour and texture, giving you a higher quality cooking experience. Unlike processed seed oils, which are chemically extracted and heavily refined, tallow is simply rendered from suet with nothing added and nothing artificial.
